2008 The Steps Between
The Steps Between was released in June 2008. The EP was originally supposed to be an acoustic album, similar to Dante’s previous projects. However, after listening to a few demo tracks, producer Josh Norman decided to take on the project and helped to transform the acoustic/coffee house jams into something completely different. Josh Norman’s strong background in R&B and hip-hop had significant influence on the sound and feel of the EP.
The Steps Between is a collaboration of an acoustic singer/songwriter with a straight-up, Southern hip-hop, maestro. Strong beats and layered synth make The Steps Between both meaningful and fun. The EP features such songs as, We Lose, Burden, and Surely. It was produced and recorded entirely by Dante Schmitz, Josh Norman, and Eli Wichryk.
More than anything the EP has inspired Dante to think of music in new ways and will be a stepping-stone to future projects. The Steps Between is available for sale at live shows and also on iTunes.
2006 Ulysses
In the fall of 2005 Dante again went to PDM studios with Erny Tullis and began recording some new tunes. He wanted to create something raw and emotional with Ulysses so they booked the studio for two weekends and kept things simple.
Ulysses is more like a live, studio, session than an album. Most of the songs were recorded as one track and required little if no postproduction work. Ulysses takes you back to the roots of Dante’s acoustic music. A guitar, some words and a voice are all it takes to make this project work. As if chasing the ghost of Dante’s hero, Woody Guthrie, Ulysses is a slice of Americana folk /rock and is a great collection of Dante tunes. Ulysses can be found on iTunes and for sale at live shows.
2005 Bitter Sweet
In 2004 Dante came in contact with PDM studios and recording engineer/producer Erny Tullis. They combined forces and enlisted the help of several Oklahoma artists to create Dante’s first solo album, Bitter Sweet. Bitter sweet was released in the summer of 2005 and set the tone for Dante’s musical career.
At the heart of the Bitter Sweet is a singer/songwriter and the album stays true to that. Bitter Sweet features artists like, Terry Ware, Mary Reynolds, Josh Roberts, Caleb Tullis and more. Dante has come a long way since his first recording project but the album is still a favorite among his listeners. Bitter Sweet is jazzy/folk/rock and is an illustrious look into the life and music of Dante Schmitz. Bitter Sweet is available for sale at live shows and also on iTunes.

Dante and the Hawks
Coming Summer 2009

Welcome. If you don’t already know who I am, my name is Dante and I love playing music. I write songs about life and love and anything that gets stuck in my head. Sometimes they’re happy and sometimes they’re sad, but mostly I try to be hopeful.
The best thing about playing music is the connection it has given me to people all over the world. So many of us live and breathe our favorite songs. We go about our days with tunes in our heads and melodies on our tongues. Music influences us in ways we can never fully understand. I have been blessed to play music with and for some of the most amazing people in the world. I can’t thank you enough for sharing your lives with me.
When I’m not singin songs I like to fish and golf and anything else to do with the outdoors. Nothing helps clear my head like a nice long run. I love to plug in a good play list and just go. I ran my first marathon at the Historic Route 66 Marathon in November 2007. It was the experience of a lifetime. I remember crossing the finish line and being completely overwhelmed at the thought of what I had just done. 26.2 Miles! That’s insane when you think about it.
My friends and family mean everything to me. I like to stay up late, but I also like to wake up early. I’m also a big fan of power naps in the afternoon and I love me some good sushi.
I want to write music with emotion. More than anything I want people to feel something they can relate to when they listen to my songs. Someday I hope to write a song that perfectly captures a moment or a feeling that will live on long after I’ve left this world. Thank you so much for stopping by. Please come back and listen anytime.
Check us out on youtube! I’m always posting new videos and you can also find videos other people have posted from shows and whatever else we’ve been doing with the cameras rolling.
